Girl Talk- "Can Men and Women Just Be Friends?"

Can men and women just be friends? Is it really possible for both sexes to exist together in a platonic friendship? Or will sexual attraction and jealousy always come into play?

Truth is, in today’s society women are finding themselves in more friendships with men than ever before. For the simple reason that most women are over the drama that comes along with same sex friendships. But even though being friends with males may appear to be drama free, there are still challenges that both sexes will need to overcome in order to be…JUST FRIENDS!

Since men and women are working and going to school together, it’s very easy and convenient to build friendships. But with these friendships there should be ground rules so pay close attention.

Ground Rule #1

Overcoming Attraction

If you have a male friend that you are attracted to then this rule will be the hardest not to break. Giving into sexual tension will quickly take you from friends to lovers in the matter of minutes. If you value your “friendship” do not cross that line because as easy as it is to go from friends to lovers, it is very difficult transitioning from lovers to friends. Going from lovers to friends usually begins with the simple phrase “Can’t we be friends” which is usually spoken by the person in relationship who trying to dodge a romantic bullet. What this phrase REALLY means is I like you as a person, love your company, enjoy your conversation and still want you around BUT IM NOT READY and still want to see other people. Basically what I am saying is you can’t go backwards because I guarantee you someone will get hurt in the process. So don’t cross the line because honestly who would want to hurt their “friend”?

Ground Rule #2

Dealing with Doubters

This is where the constant justification comes in. You will have to continuously explain to people that you guys are actually just friends. Contrary to others belief, sex is not always the main objective in male-female relationships. This is usually the case when there is a lack of attraction, sexual orientation, or involvement in another romantic relationship. But even if there is attraction, let’s face it looks are not everything because there are qualities that you can tolerate as a person’s friend but not in a romantic relationship.
But what happens when you’re the doubter? Would you be able to accept the fact that your boyfriend has a lot of female friends? If you are in this situation I suggest that you have a lot of trust in your relationship because without it you could become a victim of jealousy and potentially ruin your relationship. Some things you will need other trust are a lot of self worth (do not be insecure especially if his friend is really pretty), a strong mind and heart and lastly good acting skills because no matter how much you may act like you’re cool with their friendship, you will secretly hate her.

Ground Rule #3

Define the Relationship

Defining the relationship between the two of you is crucial. If you do not have a mutual understanding than there could be room for error in this so called “friendship”. Meaning you need to distinguish between a “friendship attraction” and a “connection profuse with lust”. With this being said a lot of people claim to be a “friend” as a way of getting closer to someone. How many of us have been approached by guy who is trying to pursue you, you tell him you have a boyfriend (probably a lie but who cares) and he insist on following up with “You can’t have friends?” Knowing damn well he do not want to be JUST be your friend. And ladies we cannot act like we don’t do it too. Playing the “home girl” role in hopes of one day becoming “his girl” when in reality that may never happen. Bottom line is friendship with ulterior motive is a “no-no”. Friendships should be built off of honesty not deception so don’t lie to him or yourself.
Those are the ground rules you need to follow in order to keep him as JUST a friend. But sometimes you can’t avoid the inevitable nor deny the fact that friends make the best lovers! Why? You ask…because there’s a certain level of comfort you have when you’re with your friend that you don’t have around your lover initially. You feel free to be yourself, crack corny jokes, share things that may be personal or sometimes even embarrassing and not have to worry whether or not you’re turning that person off or being misjudged. You also have the same interests which makes it easy to get along. With a friend it’s not primarily about sex but communication and just knowing that that person is there when you need them which are all the things you need to make a relationship work with your lover.
The con would be if the relationship failed for some reason and like I said before there is no going backwards. So therefore that friendship is lost and there’s no way to get it back. And if you do, it will not be the same. So to answer the question can men and women be friends? Of course! Are there challenges? Oh yes! But if you overcome attraction, deal with the doubters and define your relationship you could be on your way to a long lasting male-female FRIENDSHIP!

But if you do decide go from friends to lovers; Make sure that it is worth the risk of possibility of losing a really good friend. If you both are on the same page and are ready to take the plunge then why not? It may be the best decision you ever made!

"A New Year, A New Me"- Reinventing Yourself in 2010

Hey ladies!! As you all know we have embarked on a new year, 2010. New years represent new beginnings and I am sure that you have been making lists of everything you want to change and accomplish which is very common. Making a list is great if you actually execute it but if not what is the point of wasting paper?? If you are struggling to come up with ways that you can improve this year, here are some tips that will help you reinvent yourself. Lets not only embrace the new year but a new you!

Tips For Reinventing Yourself

Expand Your Horizons- Expose yourself to different things, cultures, places, and activities.

-Get More Involved- Join a club, commitee, organization,etc. Participate in community service

-Stimulate Your Creativity- Find your talents and perfect it or find something else you do well.

-Meet New People- Changing up your social circle helps because new people introduce you to new things!

-Reward Yourself for progress and Forgive Yourself for Slip Ups- Treat yourself when you accomplish one of your goals and if you happen to slip up and fall back into old habits, DO NOT beat yourself up! Just regroup and keep it moving!

-Get a Fresh Start (Mentally)- Let go of old relationships and friendships that didn't work out in the past. Trust me it didnt work out for reason. No more grudges and pinned up frustration! Just LET IT GO!

-Learn From Your Mistakes- Mistakes are easily repeated if you do not learn from them. So take it as a lesson learned and do not let the past repeat itself.

-Get a new look!- Get a new hairstyle, switch up your wardrobe, try new make up, loss weight,etc. Give yourself a mini makeover! Let yourself outside appearance match the beauty inside.

So there you have it! Try these tips and get started on reinventing a new and improved you! Remember change is good and if you are not changing then you are not growing! Leave the past in the past and always look to the future because that is where you will spend the rest of your life. Never live in the past!

What You Need to Know!!

Where is HIV found?
HIV is found in many body fluids including blood, semen, vaginal fluids and breast milk.

How is HIV transmitted?
HIV is transmitted through:
􀂃 Unprotected penetrative (vaginal or anal) and oral sex with an infected person
􀂃 Blood transfusion with contaminated blood
􀂃 By using contaminated syringes, needles or other sharp instruments
􀂃 From an infected mother to her child during pregnancy, childbirth and
breastfeeding

Can I get HIV from casual contact?
HIV is not transmitted by day-to-day contact in social settings, schools or in the
workplace. You cannot be infected by shaking someone's hand, by hugging someone,
by using the same toilet or drinking from the same glass as an HIV-positive person,
playing sports with or by being exposed to coughing or sneezing by anyone living with
HIV. So you should not be fearful of interacting with persons who are living with the
disease.

How can you limit your risk of getting HIV through sex?
􀂃 Abstain from sex
􀂃 Remain faithful in a relationship with an uninfected equally faithful partner with noother risk behaviour
􀂃 Practice only non-penetrative sex
􀂃 Use male or female condoms correctly each time you have sex

In addition to the above, you can further reduce the risk of HIV infection through sex?

􀂃 Delay the age you begin to have sexual relations
􀂃 Reduce the number of sexual partners you have
􀂃 Get tested and treated for sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
How can you prevent the other ways of HIV transmission?
􀂃 Avoid injecting drugs, or if you choose to inject drugs, always use new and
disposable needles and syringes
􀂃 Ensure that any blood or blood products that you might need are tested for HIV
and that blood safety standards are implemented.

What is 'safer' sex?

No sexual act is 100% safe. Safer sex involves taking precautions that decrease the
potential of transmitting or acquiring STIs, including HIV, through sex. Using condoms correctly every time one has sex is considered ‘safer’ sex.

What causes AIDS?

AIDS is caused by HIV.

HIV is a virus that gradually attacks immune system cells. As HIV progressively damages these cells, the body becomes more vulnerable to infections, which it will have difficulty in fighting off. It is at the point of very advanced HIV infection that a person is said to have AIDS. It can be years before HIV has damaged the immune system enough for AIDS to develop.

What are the symptoms of AIDS?

A person is diagnosed with AIDS when they have developed an AIDS-related condition or symptom, called an opportunistic infection, or an AIDS-related cancer. The infections are called ‘opportunistic’ because they take advantage of the opportunity offered by a weakened immune system.

It is possible for someone to be diagnosed with AIDS even if they have not developed an opportunistic infection. AIDS can be diagnosed when the number of immune system cells (CD4 cells) in the blood of an HIV positive person drops below a certain level.

Is there a cure for AIDS?

Worryingly, many people think there is a 'cure' for AIDS - which makes them feel safer, and perhaps take risks that they otherwise wouldn’t. However, there is still no cure for AIDS. The only way to sta

The lining of the vagina provides a large area, which can be exposed to HIV-infected semen. Semen has higher levels of HIV than vaginal fluids do.
More semen is exchanged during sex than vaginal fluids.
-More than 20 million men, women and children have died from AIDS.
-90 percent of HIV-positive children were infected during birth or breastfeeding

This week's goGIRL is Kerrel Mckay. Twenty-Four year old Jamaican Aids activist is
a globally recognized youth leader. Kerrel speaks for UNICEF and has established a strong non-governmental group, the Portland Parish AIDS Committee Youth Group, in her homeland of Jamaica. However behind the smiles is the sad story of a young woman losing her father nine years ago to AIDS. Kerrel was nine years old when her mother told her that her father was HIV positive. With no initial understanding of the virus or the discrimination that would come along with it, Kerrel stood by her father and helped in any way she could.

Kerrel is committed to her message she frequented bars and clubs to spread sexual health education. Kerrel realizes that a “majority of all new infections are among young people,” and she emphasizes that “young people have a lot to contribute [in terms] of skills and creativity that can be harnessed in the response [to HIV/AIDS].” Kerrel stresses that “Young people are crucial in putting a stop to the growing epidemic that we now face.”

Kerrel’s voice now reaches beyond Jamaica to anyone with an Internet connection. She has recorded three audio diaries for UNICEF (the biggest supporter of Kerrel’s Committee Youth Group) in which she interviews Jamaicans concerning their beliefs about AIDS and sexual health. One man Kerrel interviewed—who works for an AIDS prevention program—notes the long-term effects of AIDS, which kills parents and “…leaves their children in a vulnerable situation, and the kids often become victims of crime, violence, drugs and prostitution.” Kerrel’s audio diaries give insight into Jamaican culture while simultaneously expressing the worldwide need for AIDS education and prevention.

One of the 10 Commandments of a goGIRL is “Thy shall better me and my community” and we intend on practicing just that!! This is the season for giving back and being thankful for what and who you have in your life. This is also the time to do something selfless that will benefit someone other than yourself. Here are some ways that YOU can give back…

• Donate to a nonprofit that helps the hungry
• Donate a Thanksgiving basket
• Hold a food drive
• Volunteer at a soup kitchen
• Hold a Thanksgiving charity bake sale
• Send a phone card or care package to a soldier
• Donate to a charity that helps the homeless
• Deliver Thanksgiving dinners to housebound people
• Visit hospital patients
• Invite a friend over to dinner who doesn’t have a place to spend the holiday

This week's goGIRL is Los Angeles-based designer Melody Ehsani. She creates eye catching shoes and accessories and have already caught the eyes of A-list
celebrities Rihanna, Ciara, Alicia Keys, Kelis, Keri Hilson, Erykah Badu and Mariah Carey to just name a few. Her accessories and shoes are bold, daring and makes a statement.

Just two years into business she started her career by taking classes at a design school, interning and then opened a small boutique. The boutique ended up not working because she set out her to create her own line. She did her research on a few factories and went to Asia. She stayed out there for months, until she finished her first collection.

Melody not only has a line of iconic jewelry but also a line of fashion forward shoes. This Week's goGIRL is Vashtie Kola, haven't heard of her? I'm sure you seen some of her work. She directed Kid Cudi's "Heaven at nite", Kanye West's "Us Placers" , Solange's "T.O.N.Y." and more recent Justin Bieber's "One less lonely girl" music video. Often known as Va$htie (pronounced vash-tee) she is the ultimate girl on the go! Not only is she a director, she's a designer, party promoter, artist, and entrepreneur!

Vashtie was born April 23, 1981 in Albany, New York the youngest of three children born of Trinidadian parents. Vashtie moved to New York City in 1999 to attend film school at The School Of Visual Arts in Manhattan, where she studied directing/cinematography. At the same time, Kola interned at RSA/Black Dog Films and HSI while working part-time for James Jebbia at Stussy in SoHo. At the age of 25, she was asked to re-vamp the company of Island Def Jam as Director of Creative Services. L.A. "Babyface" Reid, president of Def Jam, said she would be "The one to keep the building cool, someone in tune with downtown cool and pop mainstream." She recently left her position at Island Def Jam as Director of Creative Services to work for herself.

Last season she launched her brand VIOLETTE, described in style as, "If Louis Vuitton had a daughter living in the Lower East Side. She'd be rocking a cool t-shirt, kicks, and a great handbag". Playing on her personal tom-boy style, mixed with a fashion forward sensibility, Violette is currently carried at specialty boutiques like Colette in Paris. The goGIRL Survival Guide

The life of a goGIRL is great! But it isn’t always easy. Ladies, as goGIRLs, we wear many hats. Some of us are students, mothers, wives/girlfriends, business owners, artists, etc. I don’t know about you but sometimes I can feel like I am stretched a little too thin. Balancing your career, personal life, and health can become very difficult for a woman who is constantly on the go, so here are some tips that every goGIRL can use to sustain this admirable life we all lead!

Career (For the students as well, school is a job in itself)

• Stress Free is the way to be!-Try not to get over worked when feeling overloaded with your job or classes
• Time management is very important since there are not enough hours in the day
• Set realistic goals! Dream big but pace yourself.
• Be competitive! Compete with yourself not others, be the best you that you can be.

Personal Life-(Dating and Other Relationships)

When it comes to dating, this can be a very difficult task for us, goGIRLS. We have so much on our plates that dating is the last thing on our list. Dating is fun and great for meeting new people so that you can get a better idea of what you want in a long-term partner.

• Date outside the box! Dating the same type of guy can sometimes lead to the same old problems. Try something or shall I say SOMEONE new!
• Communication is Key. Make sure you and your romantic interest are on the same page and have the same expectations.
• “Don’t Click Too Fast”- This is a saying we use which means take your time. Don’t rush or force things, let things happen.
• Make a little time. We get so caught up in our careers and other obligations that we put our mates on the backburner. So find time for the special someone or send a cute text throughout the day to show you care. The goal is to be goGIRLs not “lonely girls”.

As far as other relationships are concerned make sure you are spending time with your family because they are just as important.

• Have a family day! Designate a day or time of day for your family.
• Don’t forget to call. Even if it’s just to say “Hi”

Now, when it comes to your friends, don’t get so caught up in your own life that you forget to be there for your girls.

• Be supportive!
• Be a shoulder to cry on and a good listener
• Don’t keep score! Don’t keep track of who paid last, who drove last? Who called who last? Who cares?
• Focus on the positive. No matter how much you love your friend there will always be something about her that gets on your nerves but try to concentrate on their qualities rather than their flaws.

Health

• Get plenty of sleep. Get at least six hours if not eight.
• Drink water! Less headaches and migraines, regulates body temperature, flush out toxins, decrease heart attacks, raise your metabolism, and gives you fresh and healthy skin.
• Eat three balanced meals a day. Most of us usually forget to eat or eat fast food and other junk because it’s quick and convenient.
• Take vitamins. Vitamins provide a great source of energy and dietary supplement
• Exercise. Take 30 minutes out of your day to walk, do crunches, yoga, etc.
• Take a mental break every day. Take a second for yourself to just breathe and give your mind a break.

So Ladies, there you have it! Tips for your career, personal life and health that every goGIRL should take advantage of in order to be truly UNSTOPPABLE! Like I said previously the life of a goGIRL isn’t easy but it’s our job to make it appear that way. And remember that in the end, it’s always the survivor who gets to tell the story!

goGIRL Events- Don't Judge me, EMPOWER ME!

Last month goGIRL's attended the W.E.E.N conference at Alaine L. Locke School in Harlem, New York. “Don’t Judge me, EMPOWER me!” Sponsored by Honey Magazine, Girl Scouts of America and Power 105.1.

The conference consisted of 4 different panels of powerful women who discussed 3 different topics. The topics were: health, career, relationships. Courtney (of Honey Magazine), Angela (of Sirius Satellite Radio’s Shade 45 station), Tippi Shorter (hairstylist to the stars) who’s clientele includes: Rihanna & Alicia Keys and Aleesha Renee (tv personality) were panels just to name a few.

The ladies gave great advice! They left us empowered and liberated! W.E.E.N next stop for the tour will be in Houston, TX if you're in the area I advise you to go! This is something you don't want to miss out on!

Girl Talk- "Your First and Last Love, Self-Love"

How much do you love yourself? Better yet…do you love yourself? Take a minute and think about it. Do you truly value yourself as a person? Truth is, as women we get caught up in loving our companion or wanting someone to love to the point that we forget about the person who matters the most, YOU! We all know the saying “how can you love someone else if you don’t love yourself?” .Yes, we’ve heard it but do we really understand what it means? In order to possess that unconditional love for oneself, I’ve put together some things you should do to ensure that you don’t miss out on the greatest love of all, self-love!

First step is to fall in love! We are all good at that, right ladies? Just like you get to know that guy you are attracted to, get to know yourself! What makes you, You? Think about all great attributes and what makes you an individual. Most of all ladies, we have to accept our flaws. Sometimes our flaws are what makes us so unique, we have enough critics outside of ourselves so do your best to avoid self criticism. Think positive and learn to praise yourself, EVERYDAY! Look in your mirror and fall in love with not only you but your reflection.

Secondly, don’t be a worry-wart! Try not worry all time instead find solutions to the problems, if the problem is something that you cannot control then just remember what is meant to be will be. Trust in yourself and the choices that you make, avoid doubting everything that you do and say. Yes! We all make mistakes but you also have to learn how to forgive yourself, learn from your mistakes and move on. To dwell on past is a BIG waste of time, RELAX! Also ladies, be honest with you! Stop pretending and living in denial about how you really feel and think. Don’t try fit into anyone’s mold of what they think or believe you should be, you decide! It is your life, right? Live it the way you want and learn how to express how you feel. If you are happy, shout it out! If you are sad, cry! By acknowledging your emotions and thoughts, you allow room to heal and by healing you are promoting self-growth.

This week's goGIRL is the beautiful Nikki Osei! Nikki is the true definition of a woman on the go! She's full time student, mother, writer, and fashionista!

Nikki is a graduating senior attending Bowie State University majoring in Public Relations. She hopes to pursue a career in fashion pr. In addition to attending college, she is also a full time mother and writes,“The BSU Fashionista Diaries” for her school publication, “The Spectrum”, is resident fashion writer/correspondent for Africa In Demand, in addition to various other freelancing. Her hobbies include family time, fashion, shopping, writing, and listening to music particularly neosoul artists Musiq Soulchild and Raheem DeVaughn.

Nikki will be relocating to New York in spring 2009, to begin her quest for fashion pr greatness. In the future, Nikki sees herself dominating the fashion pr scene. She aspires to open a DC based fashion pr firm, as they are nonexistent in the DC Metropolitan area. “I don’t want other women with aspirations similar to mine, to miss out on growth opportunities in this fashion industry due to location.” Nikki would also like to write for a major fashion publication like Elle or Vogue.

Being a goGIRL to Nikki means beating the odds by any means necessary. Having a son at the tender age of 16 and receiving little to no support from her immediate family never swayed this goGIRL from her dreams. Nikki says "I always knew that I would be able to accomplish whatever I sent my mind to. I never allowed the pessimism from family to detract me from my goals. I have always strived to break stereotypes, specifically the teenage mothers usually amount to nothing typecast. I work hard, play harder, maintain over a 3.0 GPA, and take care of my son and household, all while maintaining my flawlessly fabulous fashionista status. The Ankh is an Egyptian symbol that represents "Life". I joined the two to convey the message that in order to be a successful writer, I must LOVE what I do and have an everlasting PASSION to continue my journey of Life in becoming a writer. Hello to all my beautiful goGIRLs, this week we have the pleasure of announcing Brittany Ross, a native of Richmond VA as goGIRL of the Week. She is the founder of Blushed by B.Ross a company specializing in makeup artistry and image consulting services.

Brittany’s passion for makeup artistry blossomed when she was an outgoing 7th grade student whose parents enrolled her in Barbizon Modeling School where she studied to be a model and actress. In her senior year in high school, the father of a friend who happened to be a photographer noticed Brittany’s raw talent when it came to makeup artistry. He set up a photo session where she would be tested as the makeup artist. From that she gained a position on the team taking the name “B.Ross”, a nick name which started in school and quickly became the name people would recognize her as. After graduating high school in 2007 Brittany moved to NY to continue her studies at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, a two year performing arts school in Manhattan. After the first year of school Brittany felt a void and needed to get back to her calling which was fashion.

Taking odd jobs and struggling to get by, Brittany decided to move back to Virginia to gain stability and start her own business that would empower women through the art of makeup and imagery. Along with offering services to women, she wanted to find a way to reach young girls and has begun developing BBF, The Blushed Beauties Foundation for young women in the 8th to 12th grade to discuss the complex life and self image of teens. goGIRL of the Week- Jayda D. Thompson

This week's goGIRL of the Week is Jayda D. Thompson. Jayda is a Writer/Producer based in New York and Chicago. She is an alumnus of the University of Illinois, where she earned a B.S degree in Media Studies. Jayda's introduction to film began in a course titled "African American Women in Cinema" taught by celebrated film scholar Dr. Frances Gateward. For three years, Jayda worked closely under Dr. Gateward completing minors in both African American and Cinema Studies; creating a unique specialization in African American Cinema, and graduating with honors.

In addition to her undergraduate studies, Jayda received intense training through The Priceless Edge Internship Program sponsored by Mastercard, The William Morris Agency, CAA, Interscope, and Universal. She also worked in video production for both Sony Music Entertainment, and Interscope. Prompted by her experiences, she developed and taught a filmmaking/mentoring program for minority teen girls at The Boys and Girls Club for three years. Her work with the girls is cited in Dr. Ruth Brown's Black Girlhood Celebration: Toward a Hip-Hop Feminist Pedagogy.After graduating from the University of Illinois in 2007, Jayda was accepted into Columbia University's graduate MFA film program. Her screenplay, "Candles for Christina" was directed by Bobby K. Cox and made its debut in the Fall of 2008 at a community screening in Harlem. Then, she produced "Couples Only" directed by Gina Atwater, which also premiered in 2008. She followed that with Co-producing "The Curious Complications of Role Playing," official selection of the 2009 Columbia University film festival.

Jayda works at Columbia University's law school as a media technician where she is developing her knowledge of contracts, copyright law, and intellectual property issues. She enjoys writing and producing projects that highlight young Black women. Currently, she is in pre production on a short film developed in the Sundance Director's Lab. Jayda is an active member of many film organizations including IFP, Columbia Women in Film, and The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. In the future, Jayda plans to teach film production abroad with the Fulbright Foundation, and adapt literary works by African American authors for the big screen.

Jayda is the True Definition of a good GIRL going places, she is unstoppable! With her experience and determination I am positive we will see her films world wide! Keep up the good work and we will see you in movie theater very soon!

The Nice Guy VS The Bad Guy

Ladies, why do we always go for the unattainable, unappreciative, self-absorbed, egotistical guy? Why would you honestly want to be with someone with these characteristics? If you are struggling to come up with an answer, let me help you figure it out. Let’s break it down! Why are we attracted to bad guys to begin with? Well many believe women are attracted to “bad guy” because they are different. They don’t really fit in with the other guys you’ve dated, very interesting and like a breath of fresh air. Bad guys also appear more confident and who doesn’t love a man with confidence. I know I do! Another reason is “The Savior Complex”, you want to rescue him, be the reason he changed, and transform him into a good guy. Very unrealistic ladies, don’t play Mother Teresa! Some of us women also love a challenge and a bad guy is just that with the “cat and mouse chase”, “on and off”, “hot and cold” and “back and forth” antics. This is not a challenge, more like a big waste of time!

But let’s not put it all on men, we play a part too. I believe you are what you attract. So if you keep finding yourself in the SAME situation with the SAME type of guy then it’s possibly you or something you are doing and should fix it immediately. Women sometimes seek out “bad guys” because they have commitment phobias themselves. Men aren’t the only ones who fear being emotionally attached but this is not the solution. It’s a lose/lose situation!

So here’s what we can do to avoid getting involved with “bad guys” in the future and find someone who deserves you and treats you like the Queen you are. First step is self-respect. Don’t deal with a guy treats like you don’t matter because you do. Second, try a nice guy! I know they can come off a little clingy, give too many compliments, text and call too much, too submissive and might not appear as confident. But give him a chance, it will be worth it. Once you get exhausted from chasing, talking until you’re blue in the face and being ignored then you will realize that you can do better.

For all my male readers, if you are a “nice guy”, keep up the good work. We need more like you! Don’t be discouraged, women will soon wake up and realize what they have been missing. Nice guys don’t finish last, they just don’t start first.

If you are a “bad guy”, remember the golden rule, treat others how you want to be treated. If you don’t know how to treat women then learn how to be by yourself until you figure it out. Stop “hitting and quitting”, “using and abusing”, and most of all hurting people’s feelings because what goes around, comes around. KARMA!

Miss Chemiracle 23 years old, is a song writer/Producer she is the other half of "The Khemastry" an upcoming production team presently located in Baltimore, MD. Their primary goal is to create music that will reflect the joy,pain,anger, and any other everyday emotion that their audiences may be going through, while keeping the music edgy and fun at the same time.

Miss Chemiracle has been writing songs and poetry since the age of 12, but was uncertain if she had a future in music. Following in the footsteps of girls rock camps across the United States, Girls Rock! DC was founded in October 2007 by an all volunteer collective of DC Metro Area musicians, teachers, artists and community organizers. In August 2008, over 80 volunteers built upon their diverse musical backgrounds, connections to local youth and approaches to grassroots organizing to create a week-long day camp for Washington DC area girls ages 8-18. After a very successful first year, Girls Rock! DC is excited to be organizing a second camp this August 2009!

During the week, campers receive small group instruction on electric guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, turntables or vocals, form bands, collaborate to write an original song and ROCK out the stage. Campers learn about the history of women in rock, gender and cultural identity, band merchandise and promotion, conflict resolution and other skills young women need to take over the world of rock!

We fell in love with the non profit organization and loved their passion for improving woman across the world. Ween is a coalition of women of all ages and races committed to supporting, promoting and defending the balanced, positive portrayal of women in entertainment and in society. They are dedicated to improving the quality of life of women and young ladies throughout the world. As trendsetters, they are utilizing their impact and visibility to effect positive social change in the following areas: health care, financial literacy, personal development and professional development through corporate social responsibility, media impact and grassroots programs.

Today's female rappers are not known for their lyrical flow but more know for their sex appeal and degrading lyrics. Are they speaking what our female generation really want to say or are they telling us what we should say? Its crazy to see how MTV supported real hip-hop at one point and now they rarely play music!

This Weeks goGIRL is beautiful and talented Electrik Red! goGIRL are huge Fans of Electrik Red, we recently met the sweet ladies this weekend in Baltimore, Md at artscape where they performed. These ladies gave a GREAT performance, with dancing backgrounds and great vocals these ladies know how to rock the house! They are really personal with their fan base giving fans personal autographs and taking pictures before and after their performance. They even called goGIRL some badd chicks!

Electrik Red consits of Kyndra “Binkie” Reevey, Naomi Allen, Lesley Lewis, and Sarah Rosete are a funky girl group hailing from Brooklyn, N.Y and Toronto, Canada. Electrik Red comprises two sets of childhood friends, Reevey and Lewis from New York City and Allen and Rosete from Toronto. While working as back-up dancers for Usher in his 2004 Confessions tour,Reevey and Lewis asked Rosete if she wanted to be a part of their girl group. Rosete agreed to join, but requested that they meet with her best friend, Allen, who they "fell in love with" .The group moved to Los Angeles, where they began working with different producers, including Shannon "Slam" Lawrence and Rodney Jerkins. All four girls performed as dancers and models alongside artists like Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, and Ciara—they appeared in her 2007 “Like a Boy” video together—before forming Electrik Red. The group officially formed Electrik Red in 2005 and signed with Def Jam Recordings in 2008. They debut album, entitled How to Be a Lady: Volume 1, which was released on May 26, 2009. The group explained they named the album as a "play on the stereotype of what a lady is supposed to be, how she is supposed to act and what she is supposed to say. We're bringing a new age woman to the world." The group wanted to show that it was "okay to be different" off their album How to Be a Lady: Volume 1 has spawned three singles, "Drink in My Cup", "So Good" and "Friend Lover".

Girl Talk: P is For Power

Ladies have you heard Electrik Red’s song “P is for Power“??? If so, let’s talk about it!! First let’s break down the title of the song. For those who are unaware of what the “P” is, here’s a hint( it’s the slang term used for identifying the female reproductive organ, vagina) Get it now??? Ok, moving right along…the message behind the song “P is for Power “ is that women have more power than some of us are aware of. Some women (not all) tend to get attached when they become sexually involved or participate in intimate relationships. It’s not our fault! Blame it on the “cuddle hormone” also known as Oxytocin. Oxytocin is a hormone released in women that play a role in having an orgasm, social recognition, human attachment/bonding, anxiety, trust, love and maternal behaviors. This hormone contributes to the reason why our species become more attached after sex unlike men. We start thinking we are in love/"in like" and start doing all types of crazy things for that man which is ok if he deserves it but if he doesn’t…he shouldn’t get the “P”!!!! Don’t give away the “power” to someone who isn’t worthy of it. Electrik Red mention guys who don’t have money, cars, clothes, etc. Ladies please DO NOT base who you choose to have sex with off material things BUT you know when your dealing with a loser, scrub, bum, moocher, player, etc (the list goes on). So therefore you know he does not qualify for you or the “P”. The “P” is not a trade off for money, trips, dinner dates, gifts, or even weapon nor method to keep/get a man. I know in the song they say “If you want a little P, let me see them dollar signs” but honestly ladies all you need to see is Respect. The “P” is yours! Think before you give it away and be cautious of who you are giving it away to. Once you lose that power it is hard to get it back so treat your body as a temple, if you don’t respect it, no one else will!
